Who we are

This website is run by The Barnes Jewellery Company Limited, the jewellery shop at 53 Barnes High Street, Barnes Village, London SW13 9LF. We are registered in England and Wales under company number 02477344. Our registered office is 53 Barnes High Street, Barnes, London SW13 9LF.

You can reach us at barnesjewellery@aol.com, on 020 8878 9471, or in the shop.

What this website is for

This website shows a selection of the pieces in our shop and describes the services we offer. It lets you ask us about a piece, ask us to hold a piece for you to see, and ask about repairs, valuations, engraving and selling.

Nothing is bought, sold or paid for on this website. Every sale takes place in the shop, in person, and is a contract between you and us made there. If we ever add a way to buy online, these terms will be replaced before it opens.

By using this website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use it.

Enquiries

Sending us an enquiry does not commit you to anything, and it does not commit us to sell you a piece. We will reply as soon as we can during shop hours. An enquiry is not a reservation.

Reservations

When you ask us to reserve a piece, you are asking us to hold it so that you can come and see it in the shop. Sending the form is a request, not yet a reservation: the piece is reserved once we have confirmed it to you by email or phone, and we will say how long we are holding it for. A reservation holds the piece for you to see; it is not a purchase, and no deposit or payment is taken on this website.

Unless we agree a different time with you, a confirmed reservation holds the piece for seven days. If you do not visit within that time, we may offer the piece to someone else. You can cancel at any time by emailing or phoning us. If we cannot reserve a piece, for example because it was sold in the shop before we saw your request, we will tell you. If we ever have to end a confirmed reservation early, we will tell you as soon as we can.

A piece marked "Reserved" on this website is being held for someone. You are welcome to ask about it, and we will tell you if it becomes available again.

Pieces, descriptions and photographs

Much of what we sell is antique, vintage or pre-owned, and many pieces are one of a kind. We take care that every description is accurate. Where we give a date or period, a stone, a metal, a gemstone weight or a gold fineness, it is what we know about the piece; some pieces are unmarked, and some details can only be settled by testing. Where something is still to be confirmed, the page says so, and we will not state it as fact until it is.

The photographs on a piece's page are of that piece. Colours vary between screens, and size can be hard to judge from a photograph, so go by the dimensions on the page where they are given. Some photographs are shown with the background removed or replaced so that the piece shows clearly; the piece itself is not altered.

Pre-owned pieces may show signs of wear in keeping with their age. If you ask us about a piece, we will tell you what we know about its condition before you travel to see it. You are always welcome to look at a piece in the shop before deciding; that is what the Reserve form is for.

Prices and availability

Prices are shown in pounds sterling and are the shop's prices at the time the page was last updated. Every price includes VAT, and so does every repair, valuation and engraving price we quote. Where a page says "Price on request", ask us and we will tell you. A price can change before you buy, and if it has, we will tell you before you decide; the price you pay is the one we agree in the shop.

Our stock changes often. A piece shown here may already have been sold, reserved or taken off display, and we will correct a mistake in a price or description as soon as we find it. If a piece you asked about is no longer available, we will tell you.

Repairs, valuations, engraving and selling

The form on our Repairs page lets you tell us about work you would like done, or a piece you would like to sell or have valued. Anything you tell us, and any photographs you send, help us to prepare; they do not form a quotation or an agreement. We quote once we have seen the item, and no work starts until you have agreed the estimate with us, in the shop or by phone. Nothing is accepted for repair, valuation or purchase through this website.

Our services and your statutory rights

Anything you buy from us, or any work we do for you, is covered by the terms agreed in the shop and by your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which nothing on this website takes away.

Using this website

You may use this website for your own, non-commercial purposes: to browse, to contact us and to share links to our pages. Please do not copy, scrape or republish our photographs or text, use the forms to send spam or anything unlawful, or try to interfere with the website or the shop's own tools.

The photographs, text and design on this website are ours. "Barnes Jewellery" and our logo are ours; please do not use them without asking.
