Who we are
This website belongs to The Barnes Jewellery Company Limited, the jewellery shop at 53 Barnes High Street, Barnes, London SW13 9LF. That is also our registered office. We are the controller of the personal information you send us through this website.
To contact us about your information, email barnesjewellery@aol.com.
What we collect and why
Each piece on this website has an Enquire form. Pieces that are still available also have a Reserve form.
- Enquire. You give us your name, your email address and a message, and your phone number if you choose to. We use them to answer your enquiry.
- Reserve. You give us your name and your email address, and your phone number and a message if you choose to. We use them to hold the piece you asked about and to arrange for you to see it in the shop. Nothing is paid on this website.
Both forms also send us the name and web address of the piece you were looking at, so we know which piece you mean.
The repairs and valuations form can also carry photographs you choose to send; they are kept in Netlify's form storage with your message and used only to answer it.
You do not have to use the forms. If you do, we need your name and email address to reply to you or to hold a piece, and the Enquire form also needs a message. The forms will not send without them. Your phone number is always optional.
We do not use your details for marketing, and we do not sell them.
If you accept cookies, we also collect analytics data about how the site is used: pages viewed, the device and browser, the country, and how you arrived. This is not linked to any enquiry you send.
Our lawful basis
- Enquiries: our legitimate interest in answering questions about our pieces.
- Reservations: taking steps you have asked for before you buy a piece.
- Spam checking: our legitimate interest in keeping spam out of the forms.
- Analytics: your consent, given on the cookie banner and withdrawable at any time.
Who else handles your information
- Netlify, which hosts this website. When you send a form, Netlify receives it and stores the submission for us, under its Data Processing Agreement.
- Akismet, a spam checking service. Netlify passes every form submission to Akismet to check whether it is spam.
- Our email provider. Netlify emails each submission to the shop's inbox, which our email provider runs, so we can reply.
- Google Analytics, only if you accept cookies. Google receives information about the pages you visit and how you got here, under Google's Ads Data Processing Terms, which apply the EU standard contractual clauses with the UK addendum where data leaves the UK. We have Google signals and advertising features switched off.
Netlify may handle your information outside the UK. Where it does, the transfer is covered by the UK addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses in Netlify's data processing agreement, or by the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where that applies. Akismet keeps the data it checks on servers around the world and transfers it under the EU standard contractual clauses. You can ask us for details of these safeguards at barnesjewellery@aol.com.
How long we keep it
We keep an enquiry or reservation request, with any photographs sent with it, for one month after we last hear from you about it, then delete it. Analytics data is kept by Google for 14 months, then deleted.
Cookies
On its public pages this website sets cookies only if you accept them on the banner. If you do, Google Analytics sets _ga and _ga_* cookies, which last up to two years and tell us which pages are visited and roughly how people arrive. If you choose "No thanks", nothing from Google is loaded. Your choice is kept in your browser for a year, and you can change it at any time from the "Cookies" link in the footer. The only other cookie is a sign-in cookie for the shop's own staff, set only when a member of staff signs in to add or update pieces. Visitors never receive it.
Links to other sites
Our links to Instagram and Google Maps take you to those sites. Their own privacy policies apply there.
The map on our Visit page
The map on our Visit page does not load until you press "Show the map". It then loads from Google Maps, and Google may set its own cookies. Google's privacy policy applies to the map.
Our Instagram feed
Some pages show recent posts from our own Instagram account. Our website fetches these images from Instagram on a schedule and shows them through our own host. Your browser does not contact Instagram or Meta to show them. We do not keep long-term copies.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it;
- ask us to delete it;
- ask us to limit how we use it, or object to our using it;
- ask for it in a form you can take elsewhere, where that applies.
To use any of these rights, email barnesjewellery@aol.com.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: https://ico.org.uk.
